Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Part-Time Staff Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of a growing heavy civil general contracting company. This position will assist with day-to-day accounting functions, job cost tracking, accounts payable/receivable, payroll support, and financial reporting for multiple construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have accounting experience in the construction industry and understand job costing, subcontractor management, and project-based accounting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day accounting operations for heavy civil construction projects
• Process accounts payable, subcontractor invoices, and vendor payments
• Assist with accounts receivable, billing, collections, and lien documentation
• Support project job cost tracking and cost code allocations
• Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
• Assist with monthly financial statements and reporting
• Support payroll processing and certified payroll documentation
• Maintain subcontractor compliance documentation including:
  • Certificates of insurance
  • W-9s
  • lien waivers
  • subcontract agreements
• Assist with equipment cost tracking and inventory records
• Support preparation for audits, bonding reviews, and tax filings
• Coordinate with project managers and field personnel regarding project costs and budgets
• Maintain organized accounting and project records

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 3+ years of accounting experience preferred
• Construction or heavy civil contracting experience strongly preferred
• Understanding of:
  • job costing
  • retainage
  • progress billing
  • subcontractor pay applications
  • construction accounting principles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• Experience with construction management/accounting software preferred (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, Sage, QuickBooks, Procore, HCSS, or similar)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Schedule & Compensation

• Part-time position (approximately 20–30 hours per week)
• Flexible schedule available
